Labiaplasty can improve the physical and psychological quality of life for women who affected by genital irregularities. The reasons women seek labiaplasty are either cosmetic or functional, and there is a great deal of overlap between the two. Most women are concerned about both appearance and the discomfort caused by labial elongation. Labioplasty most commonly involves labial reduction but may also include labial augmentation. Seeking help with genital issues is embarassing for most women and being treated wich lack of empathy means that many women never seek help for the problem again.
Indication
The commonest complain is about the protuberant labia minora (the so-called 'inner lips) beyond the margins of the labia majora. Some patients have this problem after pregnancies and childbirth or even they have it since their puberty. Sometimes it can cause problems in sexuality or irritation by wearing tight under-garments or tight-fitting jeans. Even bicycle or riding can be a problem for some patients. Labial discomfort can prevent some women from taking part in sporting activities such as horse riding or cycling. Other women find that during sexual intercourse the labia fold into the vagina, resulting in friction and pain. It is very easy to solve this problem by an small operation under local or general anaesthesia.
Operation
It is a procedure which, in the right hands, has a good outcome with low risk. The commonest procedure that is asked about is the labiaplasty. In the case the labia minora are hypertrophic and protuberant beyond the margins of the labia majora (the so-called 'outer lips'). This can cause irritation, particularly when wearing tight under-garments or tight-fitting jeans.
The labiaplasty, also called labioplasty is the treatment of this condition. The labia minora is trimmed back to the same level as the labia majora and sometimes the excessive clitoral hood is precisely trimmed. The operation is not dangerous, if you have chosen the plastic surgeon with personal experience in this field. The scar is normally not seen, and the stitches will be reabsorbed by the organism. A natural and beautiful result without complications is the aim to be reached. During operation it is very important to respect the patient and the intimity of the operated region. Therefore is only the surgeon and one nurse in the operating room. When genital procedures are performed by an appropriately trained plastic surgeon in an operating theatre under local or general anaethesia, the risks of complications are very small.
The labia majora enhancement can often be done along with a labialplasty as some degree of atrophy of the labia majora may occur following pregnancy or with ageing. Traditional enhancement is performed using fat transfers or dermal fat grafts. Temporary fillers such as collagen and hyaluronic acid can also be used and will require repeat injections within six months to 1 year.
Trimming of the clitoral hood or labia majora reduction are also possible, depending on personal anatomical structures. These surgeries can be performed individually or in combination with other procedures.
Anaesthesia
Female genital surgery (labiaplasty, clitoral hood trimming and labia majora enhancement) are relatively short procedures and are often
performed under local anaesthesia, sedation or general anaesthesia.
Duration
of stay in the clinic
The surgery can be performed as day case procedures. After general anaesthesia or if you feel more comfortable you can stay in the clinic for 1-2 days.
After
the procedure
No sports for about 2 weeks, sexual activities should be avoided for 3 weeks.
A local therapy with Betadine solution will be done at home, no stitches will be removed.
Costs and Price
Exact costs are individual and depend on the patients personal demands. All of the above procedures can be performed individually or in combination.
