The
nose constitutes the center of the face. Thus, being a major feature of
the face, the nose also contributes to the way we appear to others. Quite
often do size and shape of the nose not harmoniously relate to other facial
contours. Refinement of the nasal contour and shape can not only harmonize
the facial impression but also boost the self confidence of the individual.
Indication
Deformities of the nose (congenital or due to trauma)
Correction of so called humps, saddle nose, drooping nasal tip, crooked
or off-centered nose, thickened or enlarged tip or flared nostrils.
Operation
Up-to-date aesthetic-plastic surgery can reshape a nose and positively
alter the facial expression by applying to any nose the appropriate and
individual treatment. In general an aesthetic operation of the nose should
not be undergone before the age of 15 years, due to the insufficient development
of the inner cartilaginous and bony structures. Once the anatomical structures
are matured and thus will not change significantly there is no age limit
to aesthetic surgery of the nose.
With the appropriate technique the plastic surgeon is able to correct
not only the size and width of the nose but also shape and height of it.
The size and appearance of the tip and the angle between upper lip and
the nose can be altered as well. As a rule your plastic surgeon will place
incisions inside the nose so that no scars will be visible from outside.
In cases where corrections of the base of the nostrils are indicated the
incisions will be hidden in the natural creases where the nostrils join
the cheeks.
Planning
surgery
It is indispensable in aesthetic nasal surgery that the patient is accurately
informed about limitations to the operative procedure. With close consideration
to your wishes and expectations the plastic surgeon will help you in defining
a clear and realistic image of the new appearance of your nose and together
you will constitute a plan for the procedure. This is possible to plan with a special computer program and assure that patients wishes are understood.
Anesthesia
Usually operative procedures of the nose are done under general anesthesia.
If minor corrections or limited operations at the tip of the nose are
performed it is possible to do them in local anesthesia or with sedation and as an outpatient.
Duration
of stay at the clinic
A stay of 2 days in the clinic is possible and recommended.
After
the procedure
To minimize swelling and postoperative bruising the head should be kept
elevated for 2 days.
In order to stabilize the nasal structures a small plaster splint will
be applied for 12-14 days. |
