Many
women with very large breasts often feel uneasy about them. Some women
may suffer from back pain or even feel hapered by their breasts. Thus,
very large breasts can lead to certain physical problems like backache
or limitations in exercise as well as to psychological impairment.
Even a 'normal-size' breast, which lost its shape and volume after childbirth,
breast-feeding or weight loss, can actually impair a womans self-consciousness.
Indication
Breast reduction - large, overdeveloped breasts and asymetric breasts
Breast lift - if the breast tissue and skin has lost its shape and elasticity
due to childbirth or weight loss, an operation will reshape the breast.
Consultation
The consultation is very individualised, with procedures tailored to each woman. The plastic surgeon discusses in detail how operation is performed and where the scar will be placed. There are no strict rules in achieving beautiful breasts as each case is individual. Good outcomes for both surgeon and patient come from good communication between them from the start.
Operation
After accurate pre-operative planning, the excess glandular or fatty tissue
as well an appropriate amount of skin will be removed. In most cases it
is possible to leave the nipples and the areolas connected to the glandular
tissue. Then the shape of the breast is moulded into the desired circular
form and the skin is fitted adequately. The size of the resulting scars
will relate to the extent of the operation and the amount of tissue that
has to be resected.
In a breast lift the excess skin is resected and the breast is given a
new shape, in most cases, the size of the areola is reduced as well.
Anesthesia
For both operations, breast reduction and breast lift, general anaesthesia is the choice of the majority of patients.
Duration
of stay in the clinic
We recommend an approximate length of four days in-patient care to get
some rest and to recover from the operation.
After
the procedure
To avoid tension on the wounds and thus promote the formation of better
scars, it should be avoided to elevate the arms over ones head in the
beginning. For a period of about 6 weeks one should sleep on your back
and on your side rather than on your stomach. After the operation it is
crucial to wear a special bra for about 6 weeks to help forming the breast
and in order to reduce tension on the wounds. |
