We
see and communicate through our eyes. They often mirror our emotions or
the way we feel. But under certain circumstances the given impression
is not appropriate. Many people suffer from an excess of skin or fatty
tissue in the orbital region, which inadequately may give them a tired
or wornout expression.
Indication
Drooping eyelids or an excess of skin in the upper lid region.
Lacrimal sacs or formation of wrinkles in the lower lid.
Operation
Blepharoplasty is one of the most demanded operations in aesthetic-plastic
surgery.
Although it is a rather limited operative procedure, it takes a profound
surgical routine in order to achieve satisfactory and natural results.
To give the upper lid a fresher and less tired look it is necessary to
remove a strip of skin, which is precisely defined and placed in the natural
crease of the lid to make the incision-scar virtually invisible.
To correct
the lower lid incisions can be placed either just underneath the lid or
even in the mucosa of the eyelid. In lower lid surgery it is important
to look for an excess of fatty tissue rather than of skin.
Anesthesia
Operations of the eyelids are not painful and are tolerated very well
by just using local aneshesia in the majority of cases. If asked for it
is also possible to perform the surgery in low sedation or general anesthesia.
Duration
of stay at the clinic
Eyelid surgery is almost always an outpatient procedure, though it is
strongly recommended that you don't drive yourself! If a longer journey
to the clinic is necessary a stay of 1-2 days might be more convenient.
After
the procedure
To minimize postoperative swelling and hematomas cool packs are applied
locally and the head is to be kept upright. Sutures are removed after
5-7 days.
